A new bill introduced by the Tamil Nadu government withdraws the 3.5 per cent reservation for Christians in the state as earlier demanded by the community.

Last year the state Chief Minister M Karunanidhi rendered reservation to Christians along with Muslims. But the community leaders informed the government that Backward Class Christians were not getting their share like earlier in employment and in admission to educational institutions after they were provided exclusive reservation.

The government agreeing on it, Wednesday, decided to withdraw the reservation and introduce a bill for replacing an ordinance issued by the government.

This would now enable Backward Class Christians compete within the reservation provided for BCs.
